Scam and ripoff. Auto-renewal policy does not imply any warning and cancellation is as usual tricky.Somehow they manage to bypass my bank application which normally gives me a heads up about all the upcoming debit payments. The price skyrocketed to 200 £ from 150 last year. Their services cannot possibly be worth it. Perhaps the company is trying to get as much money as possible as it realises that it's sinking

“Academia” uses unethical email marketing techniques. The email subject line asks if it’s (insert your name) that is mentioned in so-and-so science paper. The email is a ploy to get you to click the link and pay for a membership. They also don’t comply with the legally required “unsubscribe” option in their email campaigns. When you click on the “unsubscribe” link it takes you to a page asking you to make an account.

A COMPLETE Scam. I was charged $250 this week, exactly 4 years after I replied to one of their ads for information about Grad School at Oxford and must have given them my "personal information" but never my Credit Card Number, FOR SURE. They called me several times from "overseas" but I never went through with anything, THANK GOD...But somehow they charged me $250 for an "annual subscription" I never signed up for. Therefore I will contact the US. Postal Service Police to file a claim and ask my bank to freeze the funds they stole from me and get the money back from Academia.edu. Yet another Bay Area scam subscription startup. Now they are luring recognition-hungry academics with the bait of "join the inaugural editorial board of our journal XXX". Soon they will give out virtual Nobel prize replicas, for $99 a year.

This is a complete scam. Do NOT sign up for a subscription. They have billed me for years without my permission. When you try to get off their rolls, they disappear.

They have got my check for membership , and now that I want to access their web, again comes up with the message that upgrade your membership and asks again for my card number, and there is no telephone number or return mail address that can be accessed . So it sounds to me to be all bogus and I am looking for reporting them to consumer support. The funy thing is that in their web page they show that your money guaranteed to be paid back in one month, if not satisfied then they don't provide any media for communication .

They send out junk emails that tell you if you fill out a short response to a question - they will give you a pdf interpretation of an exam - maybe its an MS 70-xxx exam... then they send you a teaser link where you can buy and download an engine or product to buy the exam. Total bullshit advertising, straight up liars.
