Just graduated from the Esthetician program and I highly recommend this school! I’m kind of lazy to leave reviews, but I know they are important especially for us, costumers, so here we are 🙂
I just want to say ZMS is a school that wants you to succeed. They go above and beyond to equip you, so you can get your license right after graduating, and that’s exactly what happened to me. And I’m grateful for that! Thanks to all the material and teachings they provided, my test was a success. I’m also grateful for my teachers Ms Shahla, Ms Dolores and Ms Judy, I learned a lot from them! And thank you Max, for always being so kind and joyful, you for sure make a difference in this school.

Very happy with my school choice and excited for what’s ahead!

I graduated from ZMS in May of this year and my experience was very 50/50. Ms. Judy is extremely dedicated to setting her students up for success. From the moment that I met her and took a tour of the school, I felt very welcomed. She is very genuine and wants the best for her students. I enjoyed every theory class taught by Ms. Dolores. She’s really patient and will answer your questions, no matter how many times they’ve been asked. The book material that is covered in theory is everything you need to learn to pass your state board exam. No more, no less ! My ONLY complaint is that I really did not enjoy the lab days. During my time there, Ms. Shahla was the lab teacher. She was a temporary teacher and, from my understanding, is not currently teaching anymore. She was very condescending and sometimes just downright rude. Her tone would change drastically, depending on which student she was talking to. There were a handful of times where I saw her make students feel very uncomfortable and insecure, myself included. Halfway through my school term, I found myself not asking many questions anymore because she would just make me feel stupid. It wasn’t until I told her that I was graduating in a couple of weeks, that she wanted to make an effort to really teach me, so that I wouldn't leave feeling like I didn’t learn anything. At that point, I wasn’t really interested in learning from her; I just wanted to finish up my hours. During my tour, Ms. Judy casually brought up that we would also learn Brazilian waxing. When I asked Ms. Shahla about Brazilian waxing, she very clearly stated that she would not teach it and even had an “icky” expression on her face. She told multiple students “if you can wax an underarm, you can do a Brazilian. It’s the same thing.” I was very hesitant about writing this review because I don’t think my experience in the lab reflects the school as a whole, but I wanted to be brutally honest. With a new lab instructor in place, I 100% recommend the esthetician program. It’s unfortunate that my experience was not super great because the school is, otherwise, VERY nice. And the entire staff is super helpful. Shoutout to Max for being so welcoming every morning ?

Im not a review type of person but I think ZMS has potential to be a great school. During my education at ZMS I experienced learning from 2 instructors. Truthfully, I was never taught anything new or different after my first 3 months at ZMS. The staff members make you feel like you're bothering them when you ask them questions or have any concerns. Ms Shahla is very informative but often can come off rude. Personally, I don't think calling students  "retarded", "farm animals ", " annoying " , and screaming at them is what a good teacher does. This kind of treatment ONLY make students feel discouraged , unsafe , unwelcome and DISRESPECTED. Front desk receptionist, Ms. Jezreel, was always very helpful and courteous to all students. Staff member Max was always very welcoming of all students. However, I can't truly say I would recommend this school unless you are thinking of becoming a barber. ZMS goes above and beyond for their barber program and provides them with the ultimate support from contest, fun activities and study sessions. However, I can't say the same for the esthetician program and cosmetology. Often products would be expired , moldy or have hairs!!! When you enroll to this school you will pay $600 for your initial kit which includes items you can personally purchase yourself on Amazon & DOLLAR TREE and COPY PRINTED PAPER BOOKS!!! I decided to write an honest review after seeing students I went to school with who would share how unhappy they were with their education come on and say the complete opposite due to fear of not receiving their backbars once they are licensed. If you are thinking of becoming an Esthetician PLEASE invest in a school who sees you for more than just your money . I hope ZMS can take this review and make their program a healthier learning environment for all the future estheticians.

I was very nervous about changing my life in my late 20s and committing to barber school and in the beginning when I was looking at schools I was looking for any reason on why it wouldn’t work or why I couldn’t do it and that I should just stick to what I know. But after I visited the school and was greeted and given a tour by Max and introduced to everyone, suddenly I wasn’t anxious anymore. I felt confident in my decision to pursue barbering. After touring many schools and then completing the program at ZMS, I learned that what really separates them is the instructors. Ms Dolores is a seasoned veteran with 4 Licenses and an abundance of knowledge and makes theory fun and easy to learn and genuinely cares about helping you become a better barber. Chris, the instructor for the barber floor, makes you feel comfortable and confident even if you’ve never cut hair before. His patience and good vibes make you feel like you’re learning a skill while just hanging with a friend. And Max, although a newer instructor, has a way of making every student feel like they matter. He would give the shirt off his back to any student who would need it. He serves as the De-facto mascot of ZMS, and although those are big shoes to fill, he does it perfectly. Even Jez at the front desk isn’t too bad ?Thanks guys for everything and I’ll be back soon for my 2nd License!

I’m in the final few hours of the barber course at this school. I am an out of state barber updating my hours as required by the State so I can write the test and continue working.
That being said, I’ve not only taken the barber course in another school many years ago but I’ve also been working in the field as a professional for many years.
I have a lot of school experience and real world working experience and I can honestly say that ZMS The Academy is on top of their business. The staff from the front desk to all the teachers are amazing, personable and huge resource of knowledge and are experts in the field. The teachers teach a good thorough course not only getting you prepared for the state exam but even more so getting you prepared to work in the field with confidence. You can tell that they genuinely care about the students and how they are grasping the information.
The teachers and administrators are very accommodating with the students and work with them on an individual basis not only with school work but school attendance as well.
As a professional in the field I’m so glad I have the opportunity to finish up the required training for the state at ZMS the Academy. Comparing this school to my other school and the real working world this is, in my opinion, the school to attend.
I highly recommend ZMS the Academy to anyone needing training in Barbering or Aesthetician. You cannot go wrong. Just call or stop in for a visit and see the difference. I’m proud to be a part of this school and excited for my future here in California.

Best experience I have ever had from a school. Happy and honored to say I completed my hours to become a barber here! All of the Staff from Ms. Jez to Ms. Dolores to Max and the captain of the barber floor, Chris are all caring and will teach you the skills from being a nobody with no skills to have the confidence and abilities to work in a shop. You’ll meet new people daily and make new friends along the way and It is a very clean and safe environment for everybody. If you have concerns, they actually listen. I usually don’t leave reviews but If you are ready to put the work in I personally recommend this school over any other schools in LA to get your barber license! Thank you ZMS for everything you have done for me personally as a student.
